I have on my bookshelves a great many books about writing and in my three writing blogs I have decided to mention the book - or books - I personally have found most useful.

With so many magazines now being published - and on so many subjects - there really is a good market for well written and researched articles and these books can certainly help your writing and hopefully lead to acceptances.

For article writing, the two books (out of many) I single out are:

Handbook of Magazine Article Writing, published byWriter's Digest. This is very comprehensive covering all aspects of article writing and containing many practical pearls of wisdom.

Ready, Aim, Specialize! - Creating Your Own Writing Speciality and Make More Money. This book by Kelly James-Enger looks at 10 popular and hot markets for writers and again contains lots of valuable tips and insights. If you are serious about article writing, this book is a must.

In addition to the books mentioned, a Writer's Yearbook or Digest containing contact and submission details is essential.

There is a growing demand for articles, whether for online sites and services or for magazines and newspapers. In my weekly blogs I’ll be covering both. But first, online article writing.

With ezines and so many sites eager for content, the articles you write and submit to article publishers, such as www.goarticles.com and www.articlebeach.com, can easily get picked up and widely circulated. And by attaching details of your website and possibly blog, it can be a wonderful tool for promotion and increasing your writing profile.

But how do you set about writing an article for online publication? The key is brevity. Readers want information, not verbosity or flowery prose. They also want helpful tips and advice and something they can access easily. Some online articles are just lists – but with each item in the list having potential use and value.

Online article writing is certainly not difficult, daunting or need be time consuming. Also, if you are new to writing, it can be a marvelous way to hone your skills and have something to show for your efforts.
